LIGHTNING PROTECTION

Lightning strikes can spell big trouble for businesses. Sensitive electronic equipment can be damaged by tens of thousands of amps flowing through electrical systems during lightning strikes.

Electronic equipment failure, performance disruption and unscheduled system downtime are among the damage lightning strikes can cause.

Avoiding such consequences can be as simple as installing direct strike protection systems, which protect electronic equipment from high-voltage surges by limiting transient voltage at their point of installation and diverting current to earth.

AJF Electrical Distributors is the exclusive South Australian supplier of direct strike protection systems by Australian-owned Lightning Protection International Pty Ltd.

LPI offers three options in its direct strike protection systems:

*  The Guardian System 5 provides a purpose-designed package for direct lightning protection. It has been tested in compliance to IEC Test Standard: IEC 60-1:1989.

*  The Stormaster ESE range of terminals provides a safe and efficient system for the protection of your facility from direct lightning strikes. The terminals have been fully tested in accordance with NF C 17-102 in a high-voltage laboratory.

* LPI also offers a conventional lightning protection system which complies to International Standards, such as IEC 62305, BS EN 62305 and AS/NZ 1768.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Millions of volts of electricity are contained in lighting, producing an estimate 35,000 to 40,000 amperes of current
  • The average temperature of lightning is around 20,000 degrees celcius
  • About 100 lightning bolts strike the Earths surface every second
